FAST-NU Lahore Campus has hosted SOFTEC 2016

SOFTEC 2016 hosted by FAST-NU Lahore on 12th and 13th March 2016 proved to be a tremendous success, marking 20 years of this tradition at FAST Lahore, which was in fact the main theme of the event; “Science & Technology – Our Islamic Heritage” to revive the original spirit of SOFTEC.

SOFTEC 2016 started off with the house being declared open by the Director, who was also the Chief Guest, at the short and simple Opening Ceremony. During the 2 day mega event, 8 competitions and several exhibitions were carried out simultaneously with over 1100 participants in total namely:

  • Belal Hashmi Programming Competition
  • Web Development
  • Graphic Designing Competition
  • Engineering Project Competition
  • Software Competition
  • Gaming Competitions
  • Ideas Extreme
  • Robo Rumble

The first day of the event also witnessed 3 major conferences and panel discussions, where the guest peakers were notable professionals, both national and foreign, on the topics:

  • “Start-ups! What’s Next?”
  • “Virtual Reality”
  • “Bridging the gap between academia and industry”

Day one of SOFTEC came to an end with a spectacular entertainment eve which was attended by Dr. Kashif Zafar, Dr. Haroon Mehmood and their respective families and featured energetic performances by Fast Music Society, DramaF, and Nescafe Basement.

Despite the rain, and all events of SOFTEC on both the days went smoothly and were brought to an end at the Closing Ceremony where a total prize money of PKR 600,000/- was distributed among the winners and Chief Guest, Mr. Syed Ahmed, (Chairperson Pakistan Software House Association of IT & ITES) addressed the audience. Director FAST-NU Lahore, Dr. Ajmad Hussain, Advisor SOFTEC ’16, Dr. Haroon Mehmood and Dr. Saira Karim among other faculty also graced the event. A new addition to the closing ceremony was the SOFTEC-IER trophy awarded to the best performing delegation of the event, was also initially won by FAST-NU Lahore. But as the host university, the title was instead forwarded to PUCIT. The closing ceremony marked a highly successful event and recognized the entire Team SOFTEC, the leadership of President SOFTEC ’16 Syed Ali Raza Sherazi, for its tireless efforts in hosting the best event at FAST-NU Lahore.
